TUBBY TEUBES
He was born in 1941 in Cape Town and matriculated at St.Josephs Marist College before joining Old Mutual SA in 1959 as a clerk in the new business selections department.
Old Mutual recently celebrated 50 years of loyal service with Tubby who is considered one of the great legends in the financial service industry.
The commitment and energy Tubby has shown at work has filtered through to all other aspects of his life. His life-long love of rugby has seen him playing rugby for both Hamiltons and Villagers Rugby Clubs in Cape Town, capataining the Villagers 1st team and later becoming the club president.
He was a founding member of the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund and was part of the management team during the fateful game in Bloemfontein where full back, Chris Burger was injured and subsequently died in August 1980. He is currently involved in development at the Langa RC, and also serves as board member at St Josephs Marsist College.
Tubby was a keen long distance runner and has run 10 Two Oceans Marathons, 2 Comrades and the Foot of Africa, plus ridden the Argus Cycle Tour when bikes still had bells.
Tubby has been married to Mercia for 40 years and they have two children and five grandchildren.
