Assisting injured rugby players in South Africa  
Tips for Coaches

   
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
   
PLAYERS
All players must be rugby fit Players should not play with injuries  
Players must have the right body profile for the position they are playing, i.e. the hooker must have strong neck muscles and should not be very tall Players must not wear any form of jewellery such as watches, rings etc  
Players must be able to complete the game at tempo Boots must be within the prescribed laws  
Players must not play with concussion or illness  
 
MEDICAL
The minimum prescribed medical equipment must be on the side of the field, i.e. trauma board, headblocks, harness and stiff neck collar Emergency phone numbers must be available  
Qualified medical personnel must be on the side of the field An emergency room should be available  
 
THE FIELD
There must not be holes or stones on the field as these can injure the players The flag poles must not be wooden but should instead be made of a flexible material  
Padding must always be on the uprights to avoid injury Spectators must be kept separated from players on the field
