The Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Players’ Fund together with S.A. Rugby, has identified the need for an organised rapid response transport system to assist rugby players who may be suffering from head and spinal injuries.
In the event of a serious injury, the Spine line toll free number 0800 678 678 should be dialled. This call will be answered by a qualified NETCARE 911 medical controller, who will:
•	Acquire additional information to assess the extent of the injury	•	Despatch an emergency vehicle with a paramedic to the scene to stabilise the patient and transport him/her to the nearest trauma unit
•	Ascertain the location of the injured player and the nearest trauma unit	•	If the patient is not covered by medical aid, the costs will be borne by NETCARE 911
