The Memorial Service for Fund legend Mike Meintjes was held recently in Cape Town. Read chairman Morne du Plessis’ tribute here…
“Our dear friend and trustee Mike Meintjes passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday morning, 11 September.
“As many of you know, Mike had been battling with the ravages of cancer in the past few months, a battle that he fought courageously and with such jest. Even towards the very end of this difficult period, he continued to describe what an honour and privilege it was to be granted the time and the opportunity to reflect with his very large circle of friends and his beloved family, on his life, his relationships and share special memories with many.
“Mike served on the board of trustees of the Players’ Fund for close to 30 years and was one of the most active trustees through the years, both from a management perspective, and also with the day to day running of the office. He was a “hands on” kind of man who got things done and who loved having a personal connection with the office staff, as well as our recipients who had been disabled or seriously injured playing the game of rugby, and everyone who he came into contact with.
“He leaves a great legacy of commitment, compassion and caring for one’s fellow human being. We will miss him and our thoughts and best wishes are with Reen and his extended family during this time.”
